The Supreme Court, on Monday, has put interim stay till July 26 on the
Uttar Pradesh government’s directive that the shopkeepers along the Kanwar Yatra route must display the “names of owners and employees.”
However, shop owners will be required to display the type of food they serve Kanwariyas, according to the Supreme Court.
Supreme Court Put Interim Stay Till July 26 On UP's Govt Order

When a bench of justices led by Hrishikesh Roy and SVN Bhatti gave notice to many petitions that were challenging the government's directives, they wrote that the state government's order to shopkeepers along the Kanwar Yatra route to display their names is an "exclusion by identity."
"Having regard to the... discussion, we deem it appropriate to pass an interim order prohibiting the enforcement of the aforementioned directives until the returnable date." To put it another way, "The food sellers, hawkers, etc. may be required to display the type of food they are serving Kanwariyas, but they must not be forced to disclose the names...," the
Supreme Court ordered.
What Was The Matter?
Shop owners and hawkers along the Kanwar yatra route have been instructed by authorities in a number of states, including Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, to display their names outside their establishments.
On Monday, July 22, the holy month of Sawan 2024 began. During this time, devotees travel to Lord Shiva temples carrying Kanwar, a bamboo pole with pitchers filled with Ganga Jal attached on both sides.
Similar Order In Ujjain

In addition to them, the BJP-run
Ujjain Municipal Corporation had instructed business owners in the ancient city to post their names and mobile numbers outside of their establishments.
Ujjain Mayor Mukesh Tatwal said on Saturday that violators will have to pay a fine of Rs 2,000 for the first offense and Rs 5,000 for the second.
According to the mayor, this order is not intended to target Muslim shopkeepers but rather to ensure transparency and safety.
